5 Steps to Prepare your Home for Sale

Making your home stand out is even more important now that the market is saturated with homes for sale. With so many choices, buyers are looking to get the most bang for their buck.

If you make the right improvements when preparing your house to sell, you increase the odds of selling it quickly for top dollar.  If, conversely, you do nothing or if you make the wrong changes to your property, you waste time and money, prolong the selling process, and probably reduce the ultimate sales price. Here are 5 easy ways to get your home ready for sale:

1) Create Curb Appeal: Build a lasting first impression by maintaining a neatly manicured yard. An unkempt yard can lead buyers to believe that the interior condition has also been neglected.

2) Clean it Up: Scrub appliances inside and out, clean walls and floors, and most importantly, get rid of odors! Carpets and Drapes are comglovesmon culprits for household odors, so be sure to have them cleaned. Use a dehumidifier to reduce mildew in the basement. Don’t go overboard, though, using too many spritzes of the air freshener can lead buyers to recognize that you’re covering something up.

3) Clear the Clutter: Excess furniture and clutter makes rooms appear smaller, thus, reducing the value of your home. Be sure to clear off the kitchen counter and dump the junk in the basement. Make closets and storage space look large and roomy by cleaning and organizing their contents.

4) Cosmetic Improvements: Buyers are careful to recognize signs of poor maintenance, including cracks above doors and windows, doors that stick, and tiles that are missing. Most of these are quick fixes that, without attention, can scare buyers away or give them cause to ask for a price reduction.

5037 High Valley: Staging by Starnes Design

5) Staging: I recently posted photos and video from my new luxury home listing in Brentwood TN. The home has been completely staged in such a way that perfectly accentuates all the custom details and features of the home. Without staging, buyers have a hard time visualizing how furniture will look in the home. Often times, larger homes like 5037 High Valley can seem daunting to a buyer who may not know how to utilize all the available space. This morning, I showed my latest listing to a couple who had seen the home once before the staging had been implemented. The buyers were taken aback by the revitalized look of the home. Starnes Design did a fantastic job preparing 5037 High Valley for the market. If you are looking for an interior designer or stager in the Nashville area, we highly recommend Starnes Design!
